South Saharan Social Development Organisation (SSDO), in partnership with the Katsina State Government and Kiskon Karatu Scholars Development Foundation, and with funding support from Latter-day Saints Charities, has commissioned two 50,000-litre solar-powered boreholes in Kankia and Bindawa Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
A Community Milestone
The commissioning ceremonies, held separately in both LGAs, brought together community leaders, government officials, academia, and residents to celebrate this important step towards solving water access challenges in the area. Smiles, applause, and shared gratitude filled the air as attendees witnessed a dream come true for many families.
Each borehole, equipped with dual reticulation systems and powered by solar energy, is designed to deliver clean, safe, and reliable water to key locations. With this, thousands of residents will no longer need to walk long distances or rely on unsafe water sources.
Celebrating Progress
The Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr. Bishir Gambo Saulawa, commissioned the facilities on behalf of the Katsina State Government. He praised the joint effort that made the project a success and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding access to clean water across rural communities.
Community members also shared their excitement and relief. For them, the boreholes represent not just water, but renewed hope for better living conditions and improved community health.
