About Project

When people help people, change happens.

Introduction

The Local Rights Programme (LRP), implemented by South Saharan Social Development Organization in partnership with ActionAid Nigeria, addresses multidimensional poverty in Enugu State. Launched in 2021, LRP empowers marginalized communities through child sponsorship mechanisms, equipping them with essential skills to engage political and institutional structures using a Human Rights-Based Approach. Currently active in three LGAs, the initiative strengthens vulnerable populations to advocate for their rights and improve their livelihoods.

Project objectives

To enhance the socioeconomic status of women, men, and children by mobilizing communities and building their capacity for people-centered development using a human rights-based approach. This is achieved through three key strategies: empowering grassroots communities with rights awareness and supporting local initiatives, strengthening local institutions through capacity building, and advocating for policies that amplify the voices of people living in poverty and uphold their rights.
